What is Asthma Causes, Symptoms, and Home Remedies

If you repeatedly experience shortness of breath or hear a wheezy or whistling sound in the chest when you breathe, well, you may have asthma. Asthma is a chronic condition which causes narrowing and inflammation of the bronchial tubes.

Causes of Asthma                                                

Asthma is often triggered by exposure to allergens including grass, tree, or weed pollen, cockroaches, dust mites, or animal dander. Irritants in the air like chemical fumes or smoke and strong perfumes are other common triggers.

Specific illnesses — especially flu, sinusitis or upper respiratory infections can also induce an asthma attack. Extreme weather conditions, strenuous exercise, and strong emotions can also change the normal breathing patterns.

The real cause of asthma is unknown. It is sometimes hereditary as well.

Symptoms of asthma

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Coughing, particularly at night or when laughing or during exercise
  • Tightness of chest
  • Shortness of breath
  • Wheezing

Natural Remedies to Treat Asthma

  • Clove

Take 5-6 cloves. Boil them in a cup of water. Strain the liquid and add a spoon of honey. Consume this twice a day for good results. Clove is an excellent remedy to cure asthma at home.

  • Ginger

Ginger has a lot of benefits on heath and body. It is an effective treatment for asthma. All you have to do is make juice with equal quantities of honey, pomegranate, and ginger. Drink it 2-3 every day for useful results. Otherwise, take one tablespoon of ginger juice and add to it a tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of dried fenugreek seeds. You have to soak it overnight & consume it the next morning. This will significantly detoxify your lungs.

  • Mustard Oil

Mustard oil works wonders for asthma. Take a little mustard oil & mix camphor in it. Warm this oil and gently massage it over the chest until your chest feels the warmth. You will get immediate relief with this remedy.

  • Black Tea/ Coffee

While the benefit of consuming coffee is debatable, the caffeine in coffee does help asthma. Moreover, it clears the air passage and makes it easy for the air to enter & exit quickly via those passages. Consume black tea if you don’t have the habit of drinking coffee. Just make sure you don’t drink three cups a day.

  • Eucalyptus Oil

Pure eucalyptus oil can help in keeping asthma at bay. Add a few drops of organic eucalyptus oil in a bowl of boiling water and inhale its steam. This will open up your nasal passages & air passages, thereby allowing air to pass through easily.

  • Honey

Honey is one of the best natural remedies for asthma. Consume a tsp of honey in a cup of hot water twice or thrice a day. Alternatively, mix a teaspoon of honey to half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder and consume it before sleeping.

  • Herbal Tea

Herbal tea made from licorice root is an effective remedy to treat asthma. You can have this tea with crushed ginger and a dash of lemon juice for better relief.
