Being a personal trainer can be challenging. It involves early mornings, late evenings and shifting your schedule around constantly. You might be working flat out in the morning and at night and have consistent gaps throughout the middle of the day? So you might say, why is being a personal trainer such a great job?
There are endless answers to why I think being a fitness professional is highly rewarding occupation. I will break down simple points to why I feel it is the right role for myself. Your clients will switch appointments, they will cancel for the week, be assured that this will happen. The key to making this the ideal career for you, is planning in advance for the unexpected and staying on top of your game. Having a plan to take care of your own personal life as well as your clients.
Here are my 7 top reasons for working as an exercise specialist:
1. Practice What You Preach
Your passion is to practice what you preach, but yet you get to preach what you practice.
You have a love for fitness and you want to motivate others to follow down the same path. This gives a sense of fulfillment and feels rewarding, especially when you have successfully influenced others to change their lifestyle habits and live a healthier life. It’s an active lifestyle and not sedentary, sitting at a desk and computer all day stressing over fixing a technical issue is not your problem. Your matters concern talking about your hobbies and interests. In my opinion, good problems to fix.
2. Don’t waste the day
They say waking up early in the day is better for your mental health, as you have more time to accomplish objectives throughout the entire day. I couldn’t agree more. Wake early, save more time and worry less about your deadlines before its bedtime! The key to getting up early is gaining quality sleep and not trying to bargain more time once you’re awake. Exercise daily to improve your sleep quality and set your alarm for the right time. Also going to bed earlier and getting up earlier is better for our metabolism, and controls are weight levels better.
3. Plan your midday
As I mentioned, plan your midday. If you have no clients scheduled, make a plan of action for yourself. Get your grocery shopping done, do your laundry and prepare healthy meals for the week. Take advantage of all your chores daily, which an office worker doesn’t see till the evening! If there is time to spare go workout! Or if you wish to stay 10 steps ahead of your personal training programs for your clients, prepare them in advance to save time in weeks to come!
4. Drop All Ego
If you want to be successful as a personal trainer and love your work, its best to drop all ego and negative feelings with those who compete in your environment. Try to involve yourself and make friends with other fitness professionals, learn from each other and show each other new tips and tricks! Remember, wealth is knowledge. We can always learn more everyday to being better and what we preach.
5. Invest More
Always be looking to educate yourself and invest more in workshops and certifications. It is fun to learn and achieve new forms of practice in your industry. It is also a great way of networking and meeting new people in your industry.
6. Seeing confidence in others
Another great rewarding feeling is seeing the emotional changes in your clients after having a life changing experience. Physical changes boost self-confidence and self-esteem. It is blissful to see those being able to socialize better and feel more confident in the presence of others. I have seen people gain new relationships and make big moves in their life after completing a personal training program with myself!
7. Planning your vacation time
Planning your vacation time is a lot more flexible as a fitness professional. As long as your communication is good with your clients well in advance, and you have given homework to do, you can plan the days off you want to see family and friends or take that sun holiday you always wanted. When working in a corporate setting, you may not have the privilege of booking the time off you want and may be limited to when you can go on holidays. Being a personal trainer offers the full social package if you are well organised and on top of your game.
