The commonly prescribed medicine, Xanax, is used for treating anxiety and panic disorders. The generic name of Xanax is Alprazolam while it belongs to the class of drugs called benzodiazepines/ benzos. Xanax is effective when it is taken as prescribed.

Xanax increases gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) slowing the brain activity resulting in a sense of calmness and drowsiness thus effectively treating anxiety disorders.But if taken without prescription or in extra doses it can lead to addiction affecting the brain and the body equivalently.

Xanax is a benzodiazepine which comes in tablet form and is divided under the class of drugs called the central nervous system depressants. They are used to produce a sedative effect in people suffering from anxiety disorder like panic, agoraphobia and other forms of fear.
