Hyperpigmentation causes dark patches and uneven color on the skin. This condition is caused by excessive production of the pigment melanin. Hyperpigmentation causes distress and low self- esteem to the person concerned. Well, good news is that you can overcome this problem naturally using some easy and simple home remedies. However, the regularity is the key to success. While there are many natural remedies to treat hyperpigmentation, let us have a look at some of the most important and effective remedies.

1. Lemon

Lemon is a natural bleaching agent that is capable of effectively fading dark patches on the skin.

How to use?

Extract juice from a fresh lemon. Use a cotton ball and rub it on the affected area. Leave for 10-15 minutes and wash off with water. Follow the remedy every day for a couple of months to notice good results.

2. Potato

Potato does wonders for the hyperpigmented skin. It contains catecholase which is known to lighten skin tone, blemishes, and spots.

How to use?

Grate a medium-size potato & squeeze its juice. Apply the juice on the pigmented area; leave it for about 20 – 30 minutes and then wash it off. Do this every day for a month and see visible results.

3. Turmeric

Turmeric has excellent bleaching properties which can help with hyperpigmentation. Moreover, turmeric is known to keep the skin infection-free.

How to use?

Add one tsp of organic turmeric powder to one tsp of lemon juice. Apply gently onto the affected area and leave it for 20 minutes. Then, rinse it using cold water. Don’t go out in the sun immediately following this treatment. By doing this once daily before taking a bath, you can get maximum results. You can do the same with turmeric powder and raw milk.

4. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera gel contains mucilaginous polysaccharides that work greatly on the hyperpigmented skin. It removes dead skin cells as well as promotes regeneration and formation of new skin cells.

How to use?

Before bedtime, apply fresh aloe vera gel to the affected area and leave it overnight. You can rinse it off as soon as you wake up. If you follow this remedy every day, you can get positive results in a few weeks.

5. Sandalwood

Sandalwood is one of the best treatments for hyperpigmentation. It is a cooling agent, stimulant and blood purifier. Besides, it enhances skin complexion, reduces the occurrence of dark patches and renders your skin a youthful tone.

How to use?

Mix a little organic sandalwood paste with rose water. Apply the mask over the hyperpigmented area and leave for half an hour. Then, wash with lukewarm water. You can see quick results if you follow this remedy every day for a month or so.

Another way is to mix sandalwood powder or paste to a tbsp of organic turmeric powder and 3-4 tbsp of milk. Apply the mask on affected skin. Allow the mask to dry and then rinse using lukewarm water. You can notice the reduction in discoloration by following this remedy on an everyday basis.
