On Thursday, Geisinger made a massive announcement about the Marketplace in Steamtown undergoing an enormous remodeling as the planning of building new facilities here are bubbling up. After the shopping mall was renamed as Marketplace at Steamtown from Mall at Steamtown, two of the major tenants of the shopping complex have moved in. And the shocker is, neither of the two tenants is a retailing store –Delta Medix and Luzerne County Community College.
Now the plans for Marketplace are shifting towards adding medical facilities and away from retail shops. Geisinger disclosed his plans about remodeling the entire market complex and is about to build a sports medicine center and orthopaedic center, which will occupy two floors of the mall that is situated in Scranton.
Rich Mazza was quite pleased with the idea, and he added that the Marketplace of Steamtown was now turning into a medical mall, which is quite exciting a concept. After the former anchor Bon-Ton moved out of Marketplace, the place has remained vacant since 2015; now that will finally be filled by the new facility.
The new facility is also going to replace almost half of the top floor; it is going to stretch from Delta Medix to Crunch Fitness.
