Across Canada, a steep rise in demand for physicians is being felt since the COVID-19 pandemic has started. The Canadian government is offering many federal and provincial immigration programs especially to the physicians to fill the labor market gaps. Physicians wishing to settle permanently in Canada need to apply for the programme.
If you are looking to practice in Canada you will need to have an approved medical degree from a university which is listed on the World Directory of Medical schools. The foreign trained doctors then need to also have their credentials verified by the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) to get an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) report.
As soon as the degree and transcripts get verified, the candidates need to apply to get the ECA report from PhysiciansApply.ca. The physician then becomes a Canadian permanent resident requiring them to complete the other necessary tests and training suggested so as to receive a Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC).
Though there are many options for foreign trained Physicians where you can immigrate to Canada as a Doctor, the fastest one is to immigrate through Canada’s Express Entry system. Note that each province and territory in Canada has their own medical regulatory authorities with additional requirements. So you need to decide beforehand which province you want to settle in.
With the Express Entry you can expedite the pathway to permanent residence. It is not open for all and is reserved for only certain eligible skilled workers who have work experience in skill types A, B, or 0. A points-based system, Express Entry, only invites the highest-ranking candidates to apply for permanent residence.
