Home Remedies for UTI in Cats

Urinary tract infection is the most common diseases among cats specifically more in male cats because of their narrow urethra can be blocked easily by crystals, mucus and tiny bladder stone, cat, are usually abandoned by the owner to animal shelter due to urinary tract disease.

Signs that Your Cat is Affected by a Urinary Tract Disease(UTI):

Bladder Inflammation:

It is the most common physical analysis that you can observe in your cat, due to blockage of their urinary tract and gets inflammation since they are not able to pass their urine.

Trying Hard to Urinate:

Cat with urinary tract disease often try hard to urinate and that to be in sometimes because each time there will be no or little passage of urine which is very hard for them.

Cats suffering from urinary tract disease will pass their urine either with blood in it or discolored urine.

Home Remedies for Urinary Tract Disease:

Home remedies always come handy in any situation, but in this case, these treatments will support mild cases or if treated in starting of infection. If they get worse, you have to consult a vet for antibiotics.

Cranberry Juice:

We human often reach for cranberry juice for our urine infection as it not only make less hospital for bacteria but also helps to acidify the urine, but it is very difficult for a cat to drink because of it acidic taste.

  • Mix unsweetened cranberry juice with cat food or dilute it in some water.

Apple Cider Vinegar:

It is the most common home remedy for cat urinary tract infection. As it is antimicrobial, this kills the weak microbes.

  • 1-3 teaspoon mixed with one-quarter water can be given with needleless syringe into the cat’s mouth.
  • Can be a mix of 50-50 portion in canned food.

Increasing Water Intake:

No doubt water intake is good for any living being as it flushes out the toxic and bacteria out of our body. Same can be applied to a cat to convince them to consume more water.

  • Mix water with can food.
  • Serving water in tuna fish can.
  • Mixing meat based baby food with water.
  • Serving low sodium chicken broth.
  • Serving bottled water instead of tap water.
  • Serving low sodium fish broth.

Switch to Canned Food:

Consuming dry food daily make the crystal and build up bacteria in cats body as they are made up of less meat and more carbohydrates in it. They are often made by of plant based which is less acidic which doesn’t help cats bladder as their Ph level has to maintain in between 6 to 6.9. Offering canned food is rich in moist food there will be a less possibility of concentrated urine which will reduce the chances of urinary tract infection.

Herbs:

To let your pet relieved from this severe condition several herbs are also useful that can help to provide them with good relief. Some of them are listed below:

Echinacea:

It is a helpful herb and highly recommended for urinary tract infections.

Uva Ursi:

This natural herb used for cleansing actions and useful in several treatments of lungs, kidney, etc. As intake of this herb cleanses the urinary tract thus save your pet from infection.

Horsetail:

If your pet excretes blood in urine, then the herb is highly useful in treating the UTI.

Marshmallow:

This herb is very helpful to get rid of the irritation caused due to Urinary Tract Infections.

Corn silk:

Last but not the least corn silk is an antiseptic herb useful to treat the bedwetting in your pets.

All these home remedies if followed may get your cat urinary tract infections treated well, but in any serious case, you should consult a veterinary physician.
